Reckon's guide to the best books from the South
There's no time like the present to get prepared for summer reading. With that in mind, we asked the Reckon audience for their recommendations for their Southern favorites: both their favorite books with authors with Alabama ties and for their favorite Southern books, fiction or non-fiction.
The results included classics, such as Fannie Flagg's "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe" and Carson McCullers' "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" to new works such as "Florida" by Lauren Groff and Bryan Stevenson's memoir "Just Mercy".
We hope you enjoy this reading list, and contribute your own recommendations in the comments.
With no further adieu, the Reckon Readers reading list.
Reckon's Summer Reading List
In our Reckon Policy & Politics Group, we challenged our readers to come up with the best books from Alabama (and the rest of the South).
Think we missed something? (And we definitely are because we can't believe no one mentioned Faulkner yet). Let us know your favorite in the comments or join the conversation in our Facebook group.
Want to make sure you read all of these? You can find a copy of this list on Goodreads.
