As with the majority of the BBC’s language sections, the birth of the Slovenian Section, too, was directly effected by the outbreak of the W.W.II. The BBC started broadcasting in Slovenian in April 1941, with Lisa Hirsch as the main power behind the quickly recruited team. Among the better known broadcasters and contributors of the time were the leading Slovenian scholar of comparative literature Dr. Janko Lavrin and Dr. Anton Kuhar, whose oratory skill is said to have matched the writing skill of his brother Lovro - Prezihov Voranc.
